Former football coach jailed for sexual abuse

Bob Higgins, 66, a former coach for the junior team of Southampton FC, has been jailed after found sexually abusing male football students for 25 years.


It has been found out that he used his position for his own dirty purpose to assault young boys during youth training programme at Southampton and Peterborough United.


His criminal actions has led Judge Peter Crabtree to jail him for 2 decades and 4 years. During his trial, he has shown no emotion as the judge decided to put him to jail.


He was accused of groping them during massages at his house and car. The victims mentioned that they suffered from depression, anxiety, suicidal intent and lack of self-confidence.


Some decided to keep quiet because it would end their footballing career, however, some demand justice and complained to their club however no one believed them because Higgins has gained trust and treated as a respected coach.


Higgins coached the junior team at Southampton between 1975 and 1990 and at Peterborough between 1994 and 1996.


Southampton and Peterborough finally apologised to his victims.


After Higgins’ conviction the FA said that they understand their feelings.


“We continue to signpost victims and survivors to speak to Clive Sheldon QC whose team is conducting the independent inquiry into allegations of non-recent child sexual abuse in football,” the FA said.
