Manchester City cooled their Maguire interest and turned to Nathan Ake

Updated: Jul 7, 2019

Manchester City started to look for cheaper alternative for Maguire after Leicester City slapped a £100m price tag on him. Local rival Manchester United also increased their bid after being out of the race which made City desperate to find an alternative.

Manchester City found Bournemouth center-back, Nathan Ake, as a better option. He is versatile, younger, and cheaper. Bournemouth only price the Netherlands international at £40m, which impressed City who is busy finding a cheaper defender.

He had once helped Bournemouth earn 3 points from his header in injury time against Champions League finalist Tottenham. He kept a clean sheet, which his side won 1-0.

Manchester City will be likely to sign the Dutch defender as an alternative to an overpriced Harry Maguire.

Bournemouth bought Ake in July 2017 after he performed outstandingly when loaned from Chelsea. Chelsea received £20m from his sale.

The Dutch qualified to be a homegrown player when he underwent his career at Chelsea.
