Ousmane Dembele's price tag set by Barcelona

Barcelona refused to sell 22-year old Ousmane Dembele, whose contract expires at mid-2022, unless a club is willing to pay the Catalan €400m to release the World Cup winner. Dembele's contract states that the player may leave Camp Nou if a club paid €400m, and Barcelona may regret overpricing his release clause.

Dembele was inconsistent for Barcelona in the 2018-19 season. Sometime he lost focus, sometimes injury prone, and sometimes played slightly well.
€400m is a price that even the richest club Manchester United or Real Madrid are reluctant to pay, and they must wait, perhaps a very long time, until the club finds a buyer. Because of this, the Barca board told his agent, Moussa Sissoko(same name but different people), about his price so he won't need to waste his time finding a buyer who can afford his release clause.
Funds from his sale will be used to open the way for Neymar's transfer.
Barca signed him from Dortmund for €125m when he was just 20, and he may need to play somewhere else to prove that he is world-class.
With Barcelona, he had won La Liga twice, Copa del Rey once, and Supercopa de España once.
